The Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors ( CAGTC
) has welcomed the proposal totaling 4302 billion over four years thereby
applauding the vision of the Administration to improve the multimodal freight
network with the hope of supporting American business as well as the national
competitiveness in the world market place.
It has been informed by CAGTC that the top-line items of
the bill is to create a multimodal freight grant program with yearly funds of
$2.5 billion available for highway, rail and port projects for the efficient
movement of goods across the country and the world.
CAGTC has further said that it has made its best effort in
promoting freight-specific grant program by which funding is awarded through
the use of merit based criteria in identifying as well as prioritizing projects
with a demonstrable contribution to the national freight efficiency. It happens to be cross jurisdictional border,
frequently multimodal as well as large-scale when it comes to freight
projects. This makes it very difficult
in funding through formula programs or such other traditional distribution
methods.
CAGTC
Chairman and Deputy Executive Director of the Southern California Association
of Governments, Sharon Neely, said that the 18 million residents of Southern
California that represents 191 member cities applaud President Obama and his
administration for being able to recognize the linkage between efficient
freight movement and the ability of the nation to compete in the global
marketplace.
